About Us

We’re a dedicated group of friends, neighbors, and family who work with Lucie to make her wish come true of spreading joy and comfort to children who have undergone trauma. She wants to bring smiles to every child and we’re right beside her to help make that possible.

Hugs From Lucie Board of Directors

Lucie Amrhein is a junior at Mercy High School in Baltimore, Maryland. She began Hugs From Lucie in 2008 with the mission of changing the world, one hug at a time.

Belinda Amrhein is currently a student at Harford Community College. She has always had a soft spot for animals and children. Inspired by her daughter’s dream of creating a charity to help kids, Belinda encouraged and supported Lucie to make it happen. Belinda has been a member of Hugs From Lucie since its inception and continues to work with her daughter keeping the charity thriving.

Paul Amrhein is an information technology professional with over 25 years experience in the healthcare arena.  He is also a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America, actively working with his local Troop and Cub Pack.  His desire to help others is inspired by Lucie’s vision and dedication to make the world a better place one “hug” at a time, and the belief that no act of kindness is too small.  Paul is honored to serve as a member of the Hugs from Lucie Board of Directors.

Kathy Lingo is a 30-year State Government employee, who has spent over 20 years doing volunteer work with her church, school and Hugs From Lucie. Her interest in Hugs From Lucie stems from Lucie’s enthusiasm, and her dream to bring smiles to children during difficult times. Having the opportunity to help others is a fulfilling experience that allows Kathy to have the opportunity to do a small act of kindness that can fill the hearts of those in need of encouragement.

Cindy Malloy is an insurance professional, who brings over eight years of non-profit fundraising experience to Hugs From Lucie. She was inspired by the drive and motivation of Lucie to put forth the effort to change the world, one bear at a time, and is honored to serve as a board member of Hugs From Lucie. Her passion and commitments to the community expand beyond Hugs From Lucie to include tracking and reuniting lost and found pets, supporting her local law enforcement and fire departments, as well as local animal rescues.

Jennifer Heitner, a program manager for a global small business lending company, has spent over ten years leading volunteer initiatives for her community and at work. She is inspired by Lucie’s enthusiasm and ideas to bring smiles to sick children. Jennifer joined HFL to advise and steer the organization toward a sustainable future through fundraising efforts.

Deborah Kevin, Chief Inspiration Officer of RipCord Communications, captures stories of ordinary (and extraordinary) people. Volunteering since middle school, Deborah connects with Lucie’s passion for service and helping children overcome trauma. Her expertise ranges from website improvement to social media management through fundraising.
